This is a bloody great album! Tunes and just great songs line up one after the other – well; twelve on the bounce to be precise. Red Flag 77 know how to entertain and they know how to make punk songs that appeal: they have pulled on thirty odd years of punk and rolled it all up into probably one of the best albums I’ve heard that will possibly make it across the great punk divide. A bold statement I grant you depending on how well this album gets circulated but that’s how strong it is! Look, I regularly drive my dysfunctional kids, associated boyfriends, girlfriends and mates all over Norfolk to whatever they’re up to and have to surrender my car stereo to utter shit like ‘Kiss FM’ but, when this has been playing even they come out of their ‘Katie & Peter’ bubbles and ask who is playing; that is how well RF77 have done here! I’m not trying to put this album up against some of the great Punk albums of the past but what I am saying that this album deserves to be taken seriously as it has it all. It’s not politically charged but the lyrics fit the great guitars and are delivered spot on by the band. There; what more can I say to tempt you without sounding like I’m getting a few quid? I’m an enthusiast and this release has me all enthusiastic about a lot of things to do with punk! All lyrics supplied. I doubt these guys will ever come out with songs about smashing the state when there are parties to be had, and their hard rocking sound reflects these ambitions perfectly. A straight-ahead punk ‘n’ roll outfit in the vein of Social Distortion meeting AC/DC for a pint and a fight, we get twelve rootin’, tootin’, rockin’ tracks of their own, finished off with a version of the Rose Tattoo classic ‘Nice Boys (Don’t Play Rock ‘n’ Roll)’—a tune perhaps more famous for the fact that Guns N’ Roses covered it. All about the party, and fighting for their right to it; these boys are mad for it. Nice one.
